Wood County Wildcats Compete at State

The 48th Special Olympics Ohio State Summer Games were held June 23-25 at The Ohio State University. During the weekend more than 2,600 athletes throughout Ohio competed in eleven athletic events. Due to inclement weather on Friday, the Opening Ceremonies and several track events were cancelled. However, Saturday was a beautiful day with everyone having lots of fun competing.

Twenty-seven energetic athletes from Wood County competed in volleyball, bocce and track & field. The volleyball team, comprised of Alanna Bucksky, Greg Davis, Grace Laube, Cory McCarty, Ryan Rath, Megan Roe, Ben Snyder and Mike Stanford, placed fourth in their division.

In bocce competition, Phyllis Layman and Lisa Rothfleisch placed second, with Mason Gregg and Mindy Horner placing third.

Many athletes competed in track and field. Placing first are Maggie Hunt, Faith Laube and Ian Titus. The results are:

Chris Black: 100M, 3rd; 200M, 2nd

Danny Bowen: Standing Long Jump, 2nd

Sara Burrell: 100M, 2nd; 200M, 3rd

Kim Fechter: 800M Walk, 2nd

Melissa Frizado: 100M, 3rd

Joel Hernandez: 100M, 2nd; 200M, 2nd

Tyler Hitt: 800M Run, 3rd

Maggie Hunt: 100M, 1st

Faith Laube: 200M, 1st

Thomas Nygard: Standing Long Jump, 3rd

Trevor Sachs: Mini Jav, 3rd

Stephen Scholl: 800M Run, 2nd

Anne Schooley: 100M, 2nd; 200M, 2nd

Madie Spence: 200M, 2nd

Ian Titus: 100M, 1st; 200M, 1st
